Under 10s - A Tough Encounter

The Under 10s met Bulleen yesterday.  It was clearly going to be a tough ask to maintain the dominance the boys had shown in past weeks.  There were only 5 on the team and their talls were absent.  However, their determination was still there as was evident from the start of the match.  There was no way these boys were going to throw in the towel.
At first Bulleen pulled ahead but they were pegged back by the focus and determination of the boys and high decibel readings from the parents on the sidelines.
In the dying minutes of the game they were down to 2 players through fouls and injury and the boys still managed to keep the ball at their end.

At the final siren they lost by 2 points but by any measurement, skills, guts or determination they were winners on the day.  Hats off to them!!!!

Under 8s Meet Koonung

I arrived late at the game to find the boys doing it tough against Koonung.  While there was plenty of good intent, the score board was not showing a result.
More pressure in the second half saw a score for the Vikings but it was not enough to get them over the line.

Vikings U10s Crush Bulleen

Wow - are these boys in the zone or what??  Arriving late to this match I saw the score was 22 to 0 and from the faces I did not have to ask who was winning!
On the court everything seemed to be Situation Normal.  Josh was barrelling down the court with the ball,
Tyson was making sure Bulleen knew who owned the ball
and Andrew was racing down the court and shooting goals.
All the boys contributed in a great team effort.  They have really come together and each is playing to the strengths of the other members.  It is exciting to watch.  Special mention this week to Tyson who shot a couple of goals (as predicted last week).
The man that is making it all happen, Coach Tim is currently a happy camper!

Under 8s on the Improve!

The Under 8s only had 6 players this week so the pressure was on and the boys lifted with more aggression and consequent pressure on the opposition than we have seen for a while.
Tyler was consistently taking control of the ball.
Pat played a more focused game this week
and Rommy gave his full 100% as usual
All the team played with more purpose this week.
Scores were tied up to the last minutes of the game when the opposition scored to put them one goal ahead at the final siren.  The boys enjoyed the game and there is a definite promise of improvement.

BIG Win for the Under 10s

It was make or break this week. The under 10s were playing the top team (unbeaten so far) so this was the time to shine.  The boys showed their intent right from the start with fantastic tenacity and teamwork they shocked the opposition by taking the lead from the start of the match.
James threw the first 3 goals to start off the match in great style for the Vikings and they maintained their lead throughout the match, despite a small scare after half time.
Andrew maintained his great form from last week with another bag of goals.
Tyson worked really hard throughout the match and although he did not get a goal he certainly deserved one.  He has to get one next week!
As usual, Josh spent his time shooting or rocketing the ball towards the goal.
Blair continued his good form with his ability to get and hold the ball.  He is a big boy!
It was a huge win for the boys who should all be congratulated on their teamwork and improved skills.

Under 8s - Still Working On Their Game

Saturday did not bring a win for the team but there was some good news.
They were struggling early in the match and the opposition built up a strong lead, the boys rallied and cut back the lead before the final siren.

Under 10s - Dominate!

The Under 10s had a great day on Saturday.  They played at Laburnum (with all the curtains drawn so the low light made photos difficult).  This match was a bit of a goal feast.
Blair and Josh made sure the ball was at their end much of the time.  Most of the boys seemed to have credits on the board.  Andrew was on fire shooting goals from all over. Here he celebrates another one.
James is becoming quite adept at stealing the ball.
They really are working as a team at present and their favourite part of the game is watching the ball drop through their net!

Under 8s Have a Tough Match

The Under 8s found themselves up some strong Opposition on Saturday.
Despite some determined play our boys found is hard to convert and the opposition seemed to have the knack of intercepting the ball.
Well - maybe next week!
